ABOUT SAILCURRENT

The captain behind SailCurrent

I am Gediminas Vengrauskas, a Lithuanian skipper. SailCurrent is my one-captain service: I skipper charter weeks in Greece and Croatia, day sails from Athens and coastal deliveries on sailing and motor vessels up to 24 metres — with a packed bag ready for anywhere else a boat needs a captain.

Certified, not self-proclaimed

Paper does not make a captain, but it is where trust starts. I hold an internationally valid Coastal Skipper certificate — pleasure craft up to 24 m LOA, inland waters and territorial sea up to 12 NM offshore, day and night operations — alongside the ICC (International Certificate of Competence) and a certified VHF radio operator licence. Boats come only from established, licensed charter fleets: insured, surveyed and maintained.

How I run a boat

Quietly. The best compliment a skipper can get is that the week felt easy. I plan around the weather instead of arguing with it, brief guests without lecturing them, and keep the boat tidy, legal and unhurried. If you want to helm, trim and learn — wonderful, the wheel is yours under my eye. If you want to read a book while the coastline slides by — equally wonderful.

Why the current in the name

Sailing rewards people who work with what the sea gives them. Currents, winds and seasons set the rhythm; a good crew moves with them, not against them. That is the promise in the name: trips planned with the conditions, never in spite of them — and honest advice when the forecast says stay in the taverna.

Where I sail

My seasons run between two home bases. Out of Athens: the sheltered Saronic Gulf for easy family weeks, the Cyclades for crews who want real sailing, day sails along the Riviera to Cape Sounion. Out of Split: the classic Dalmatian islands — Hvar, Vis, Korčula, Mljet — with tavernas swapped for konobas. Between seasons I move boats along the coasts, and by arrangement I captain charters and deliveries across the wider Mediterranean.

How a trip with me works

  1. You write two sentences. Dates, waters, crew size — WhatsApp or the contact form, English or Lithuanian.
  2. I answer within 24 hours. An honest yes or no, a route idea, boat options from licensed fleets, and one written all-in quote.
  3. We lock the dates. A simple written agreement — then I handle everything that floats, and you handle the holiday.

What guests can expect

  • A safety briefing that takes ten minutes, not an hour — and actually sticks.
  • Straight answers about costs, weather and what is realistic for your dates.
  • Local research done before every trip: anchorages, harbours, tavernas worth the detour.
  • Photos of your trip if you want them, privacy if you do not.
  • One point of contact on WhatsApp from first question to the last line ashore.
  • A calm boat — no shouting, no showing off, no surprises on the bill.
